A purchase transaction of say $25,000 for a new Land Rover will not have been good for you even if you think it was. The valuation might be as low as $20,000 when you wave goodbye to the Land Rover dealer. Sacrificing $5,000 dollars can occur in that brief space of time and those initial miles covered.
Go ahead and purchase a new Land Rover if you think I am being extreme. After you have, besides going home, you shouldn’t drive anywhere else. Return to the showroom the day after and find out what value they place on your Land Rover then. For trading in the Land Rover you might expect anywhere between $15,000 and $20,000 and this is for a Land Rover you bought for $25,000 the day before.
Over time this has been the standard manner of doing things. You will discover cases now where for approximately 30 days a dealer will give you the full original value back if you are trading in your Land Rover. In essence, after 30 days, you still have to accept that you are looking at a loss of $5,000. This shortage might be greater if merely selling the Land Rover is something you are looking at.
A two year old Land Rover will not likely bear that kind of deficit when you are purchasing it from a Land Rover dealer in the same way.
